Etisalat eSIM in the UAE: Activation Guide for 2026

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a SIM built into your phone instead of a small plastic card you slot in. Your Etisalat line is downloaded onto the device as a secure digital profile, so there is no physical SIM to collect, swap or lose. On most modern phones an eSIM works exactly like a normal line: same number, same plan, same coverage. The advantages are practical. There is nothing to deliver, you can activate in minutes, and on dual-SIM phones you can run a second line (for example a work or travel line) alongside your main one.

In the UAE, Etisalat (now branded e&) offers eSIM across its postpaid plans. This guide covers which devices work, how to activate or convert step by step, and how to pair an eSIM with a plan and a free VIP number through us.

The simplest way: buy your number, get it as an eSIM

If you are taking a new Etisalat line, you do not need to wait for a courier. Pick your postpaid plan and a free Silver, Gold or Platinum VIP number with us, tell us you want it as an eSIM, and we set up the line so you activate it on your phone through the e& UAE app. The result: a new Etisalat number, a memorable VIP number, and no physical SIM, usually the same day. Etisalat eSIM compatible devices

eSIM is a hardware feature of the phone, so what matters is the model you own. These are the device families that support eSIM. UAE iPhones keep both a physical SIM tray and an eSIM, so you can run dual SIM.

Note: eSIM support depends on the exact regional variant. Some units sold in certain markets ship without eSIM even when the same model name supports it elsewhere. If you are not sure, send us your exact model and we will confirm before you order.

How to activate or convert to an Etisalat eSIM

The fastest route is the e& UAE app (the app formerly known as My Etisalat UAE). The same flow works whether you are activating a new eSIM or converting a physical SIM to eSIM. Do this on the phone you want the eSIM on.

1. Open the e& UAE app and log in with Facial Recognition.
2. Tap Manage on your line.
3. Pick the SIM you want to convert or transfer.
4. Open Select SIM card.
5. Choose Replace SIM / Switch to eSIM.
6. Set the SIM type as eSIM and follow the on-screen steps.

Once you confirm, the physical SIM loses signal first, and the eSIM activates within about 3 to 5 minutes. Prefer not to do it yourself? You can also activate at the e& website (etisalat.ae) or any e& store, and as your dealer we can walk you through it on WhatsApp.

Before you start: what you need to know

• Be in the UAE. Activation through the app needs you to be physically located in the UAE with location enabled. A request will not go through from outside the country.
• Log in with Facial Recognition. The app uses facial recognition (UAE Pass style identity) to authorise the SIM change.
• 24-hour window. You must complete activation within 24 hours of the request, or it is cancelled and you start again.
• Cost. Etisalat has offered eSIM activation free as a limited-time promotion on the e& UAE app. Promotions change, so we confirm the current fee with you before you order. There is no separate charge from us for arranging your plan and number.
• Keep your QR or details handy. If you activate a second device by QR code, scan it with the new phone and confirm.

Converting a physical SIM to eSIM (keep your number)

Already on Etisalat with a physical SIM? You do not lose your number. The same app flow above converts your line to an eSIM while keeping the exact same number, plan and VIP number. Your physical SIM stops working once the eSIM activates, so do the switch when you have a few minutes and a Wi-Fi or data connection. If you are moving to a brand new phone, set up the eSIM on the new device using the QR option, and the old SIM deactivates.
